Chelsea and West Ham United have been heavily linked with a move for Everton’s Lucas Digne but as per the latest updates, the Blues might pull out of this transfer race.

Digne has communicated his desire to leave Everton this month following which, the Toffees are ready to cash in on him. And the two London sides are the front runners in signing the 28-year-old.

Now though the Blues might pull the plug on this deal since they are not convinced that Lucas Digne is worth £30 million. Everton are not expected to lower their asking price for the left-back which has prompted Chelsea to activate plan B.

What’s Plan B for Chelsea?

With Ben Chilwell out for the remainder of the season, Thomas Tuchel is in desperate need of a new left-back and everyone thought that Lucas Digne was going to be the one.

But as per Fabrizio Romano, instead of diving into the transfer market, Tuchel is planning to call Emerson back from his loan spell at Lyon. The French side are eager to hold onto the left-back but Chelsea are pushing hard to cut his loan spell short.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Chelsea are still trying to recall Emerson Palmieri as left back, Tuchel wants him. OL turned down first approach but Chelsea are pushing again – prepared to offer compensation.

“Lucas Digne deal now looking very unlikely. Nothing advanced. Everton ask for permanent move.”

Are West Ham United set to sign Lucas Digne?

West Ham United will definitely get a big boost now that Chelsea are planning to move out of the queue but David Moyes’ side is surely not going to get a free run at Lucas Digne.

As per the latest updates, Aston Villa are preparing to make a bid for the left-back while Newcastle United have also been linked with him. The Magpies might not get their hands on Digne due to their poor form this season but Villa certainly mean business.

The Hammers have European football to offer so they are obviously ahead in this transfer race but they too are doubtful about spending £30 million on the Everton man.

Villa are moving swiftly in the transfer market so West Ham United will have to make a decision really quickly or they risk losing Lucas Digne to Steven Gerrard’s side.
