Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United are both prioritizing the signing of a central defender this summer but both of them could be handed major setbacks thanks to Real Madrid.

Madrid have just appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager and as per Le10 Sport, the new boss wants to sign a new centre-back due to fears of losing both Sergio Ramos and Varane.

The report claims: “While Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane could leave Real Madrid this summer, Carlo Ancelotti’s priority will be to recruit a new central defender. From this perspective, Florentino Pérez would keep a watchful eye on Jules Koundé and Pau Torres.

“According to Cuatro’s information, one of Carlo Ancelotti’s first requests would be for reinforcement in central defence.

“Among the possible options for the new Real Madrid coach, there would be Jules Koundé, who has been on Florentino Pérez’s shelves for several weeks.

“However, the price of the Sevilla defender, which would be around 80M€, could derail the operation. With this in mind, the president of Real Madrid would not lose sight of Pau Torres (Villarreal).”

This really bad news for Manchester United as well as Chelsea since Jules Kounde and Pau Torres has been on their radar for some time now.

But this entry of Real Madrid is sure to mess things up since if Ramos and Varane are leaving in the summer then Jules Kounde could very easily become the first-choice central defender at the club next season.

This new development is surely not great news for Chelsea but all’s not lost for Man United since they have also been linked with Raphael Varane and if Ancelotti is looking for new defenders then there’s a big chance that Ole might be able to get his hands on the Frenchman.

We are not sure how things will pan out in the coming months but there’s also this chance that both Pau Torres and Jules Kounde could snub the Manchester United and Chelsea offer since they will be getting the chance to remain in Spain and also play for a club like Real Madrid.
