Scottish giants Celtic FC were on the verge of signing Ben Davies on a pre-contract in January but then the defender chose to join Premier League champions Liverpool, in the final hours of the transfer window.

But his time in the English top division has not gone according to plan as he is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League and this is the biggest reason why Celtic are planning to make a move for him once again during the summer transfer window.

Ex-EPL striker Noel Whelan had recently told Football Insider: “They’ll probably have a close eye on him in the summer. It’s a team that’s in transition, looking for a new manager, new players, a fresh start a change in personnel and structure.

“It doesn’t surprise me that that they’re still hovering around Davies. With Liverpool, you talk about new signings and the players they feel are good enough for the club and they clearly don’t feel that he is good enough.

“It was a bit of cover that was there for him at the time but is he Liverpool standard? I don’t think so. He’d suit Celtic more than Liverpool.”

Ben Davies has found it really hard to adjust to life in the Premier League and even Jurgen Klopp has come out to admit that the 25-year-old will need more time to cope up with the requirements of the top division.

Klopp said recently: “It was always clear – a lot of players came here to Liverpool and the most famous story is maybe Andy Robertson.

“It took him half a year in a normal season to settle in. Ben is a really good player but he has to get used to all the stuff here as well. What we have now is options and hopefully, it will stay like this.”

With the likes of Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip out injured, Klopp has no issues in helping Ben Davies adjust to his new side but once these players return then the defender could fall down the pecking order rather quickly.

And Celtic understand this very well which is why the SPFL side will try and make a move for him at the end of this season. Once the three central defenders are back into the first-team squad then we don’t think Klopp will have any use of Ben Davies meaning he should Ben Davies to move across the border without much fuss.
