Chelsea forward Timo Werner had an awful time during the international break with Germany but it looks like Thomas Tuchel is still willing to have full faith on the player’s talents.

Timo Werner could not stop scoring last season for RB Leipzig but this campaign, somehow, he just cannot find the back of the net. During the 2019-20 season, the forward netted 28 goals in 34 games for the German side but this time around, he’s managed only five goals from 28 Premier League games.

And after his horror show with Germany, everyone was sure the Chelsea boss will drop him to the bench this weekend when they face West Brom. But instead, the manager has confirmed that Timo Werner is going to start on Saturday.

‘Timo will start tomorrow,’ said Tuchel, as per the club’s official website. ‘Yesterday I sent him in from training because he wanted to do extra finishing with us. But I sent him in because it will happen, the goals will come.

‘Of course, he needs to do something and the best thing to do is to work hard. Work hard against the ball, make runs, don’t hesitate, be fearless, don’t overthink it.

‘That’s easy for me to say but it’s the challenge right now for him. Timo will start tomorrow and there we go.’

This decision will come as a shock to many especially since Tammy Abraham is back to full fitness. There’s a chance that both Abraham and Werner will start vs West Brom but with players like Ziyech and Mason Mount in peak form, only one attacking spot will be up for grabs.

Timo Werner has done very little to prove his worth under both Frank Lampard and now Thomas Tuchel but it’s clear that the new manager is not giving up hope just yet.

West Brom have conceded 57 goals in 29 league matches this season which happens to be the highest in the top division. So this might just be the perfect game for someone like Timo Werner to get his form back.

Also, after this game, Chelsea will face Porto in the Champions League and it’s better to experiment with Werner in this weekend’s game rather than risk seeing him fail in Europe.
