According to Calciomercato, AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has registered an interest in Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin.

Bellerin spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Real Betis and he went on to have a wonderful season with the Spanish side. It was almost a given that Betis will sign him on a permanent deal in the summer but now it seems like the club has made a u-turn.

Bellerin’s contract with Arsenal expires in 2023 but Betis want to sign him on a free deal. Even the player is eager to return to Spain which is why he’s asked Arsenal to terminate his contract early so that he can join Betis as a free agent.

Both the parties had kind of pushed Arsenal to a corner because they could either keep their on their books for one more season and then let him leave for free or they terminate his contract early.

With one year left on his deal, Arsenal would have been able to bag around 10-15 million pounds from his sale but in both the abovementioned scenarios, the club would have lost out on that money.

However, AS Roma have come to their rescue because they are keen to sign Hector Bellerin this summer, in exchange for a transfer fee.

This is a major blow for Real Betis because even if Roma are ready to pay 5-7 million pounds, Arsenal will take it and send Bellerin to Rome.

Now, Bellerin either has a chance to warm the benches for one year at the Emirates Stadium and then join Betis or he can choose to accept the transfer play under Jose Mourinho.

Arsenal now have two proper right-backs in the form of Tomiyasu and Cedric so Mikel Arteta has absolutely no need of the 27-year-old. 5 to 7 million pounds might not be a big figure for a club like Arsenal but by sending him to Roma, the Gunners will be able to crush the egos of both Bellerin as well as Real Betis.
